Contract Enforcement
The Graduate Student Contract is an agreement negotiated every three years by the Graduate
Student Union and Central Michigan University Administration. The contract ensures
that Graduate Assistants (including teaching and administrative graduate assistants) are
able to interact with their employer as a professional. There are many rights guaranteed
by our contract, such as a wage threshold, limitation of hours worked, and a grievance
procedure. If you think your contractual rights have been violated at any time, please
contact us. Contacting us does not launch immediate action; rather, we will sit down with
you to figure out the best course of action. Some graduate assistants feel too intimidated
to come to the GSU to talk about possible contractual violations or to pursue a valid
grievance. Remember that if you have having an issue, your colleagues or the next person
in your position will probably experience the same thing. To view the current Graduate
Student contract and review your rights as an employee of CMU, click the link below.
The GSU also provides access to a $100 travel grant for its members. If a graduate student is
attending a conference to share their academic work, the application for the grant can also be found
below.
